Otto of the Silver Hand

This is a book of historical Fiction aimed at children grades 3 upwards. Ambleside suggest for gr 2 (that is yr 3 UK) but I personally am not so sure about that.

I haven’t read it through yet so cannot vouch for its historical detail and how authentic or well researched the book is. The story takes place in medieval Germany.

Pyle’s forward for the book in which he declares the middle ages as a black gulf of human history with superstition etc does not equate well with the amazing books and knowledge that came out of that period-so I would tread cautiously with this book.

The pdf is available HERE

Some parents might want to beware of the fact young Otto gets his hand chopped off.
